How To Prepare for Windows 7 End of Life

Microsoft have announced that after January 14th 2020, they will no longer support Windows 7, which means that technical assistance and software updates that help protect your school’s devices will no longer be available.

EIS strongly recommends that you move to Windows 10 before January 2020 to avoid a situation where you need service or support that is no longer available. When Microsoft stops providing Windows 7 security updates in January 2020, you are left vulnerable to hackers and cyber criminals that will target Windows 7 devices, an example of which is the well documented and costly NHS ransomware attack. Please contact us to arrange your upgrade as soon as possible to ensure that you remain protected.

Moving from Windows 7 to Windows 10 will also increase your user experience whilst bringing an array of benefits and improvements including safety, usability and speed.

You will see an immediate improvement in operating speed with Windows 10. The start-up experience is also enhanced, as unnecessary start-up processes have been cut out, resulting in a faster user experience.

There are also substantial enhancements in functionality and usability. The start button provides easy access to programs and resizable Live Tiles, so that you can check on items, such as unread mail or calendar appointments easily from your desktop.

There are many security improvements in Windows 10. Secure Boot prevents malicious software applications and unauthorised operating systems from loading during the system start-up process, whilst there are increases in ransomware and exploit/threat protection too.

Most hardware that runs Windows 7 should be able to run Windows 10, although in rare circumstances, some will not be able to. Before upgrading, EIS will check to ensure your hardware meest adequate requirements to run the operating system and any other applications required.
