Welcome to your weekly EIS Bulletin!
We appreciate how busy your inbox can become, so EIS will only send out Support & News messages every Thursday.
If there is something critical that our customers need to know immediately, we will of course send a message straightaway –
that way you will know the EIS email needs urgent action.
Below we have summarised what is new this week… if you have any queries, please get in touch!

Urgent: Secondary Schools ONLY
Spring 2019 SIMS and Discover upgrade
We understand that many secondary schools and academies would prefer to apply the SIMS upgrade over the Easter break when it is easier to arrange down time for SIMS and FMS. If this is the case for your school, please email the EIS Service Desk (firstname.lastname@example.org) and request that the SIMS/Discover upgrade files are released to your site on SOLUS3. Please note: any schools wanting to apply the upgrade before we publish the information notice detailing the complete upgrade procedure, will need to refer to our previous SIMS Upgrade notice (SIMS Autumn 2018 18-E099) for guidance on the process.
Due to Capita’s delayed release of the SIMS Spring 2019 upgrade, we will not be in a position to publish our SIMS/Discover Upgrade information notices before the end of this term and will therefore not be authorising the upgrade files in bulk to all schools (via SOLUS3) until Thursday 25 April 2019.
If you have any queries on this, please contact the EIS Service Desk on 0300 065 8888
SIMS: Recording a School Closure Due to Use as a Polling Station
Local elections in the United Kingdom are scheduled to be held on Thursday 2 May 2019.
Is your school used as a Polling Station?
Do you need to record a planned closure (# code) for attendance purposes in SIMS?
Guidance notes are now available on the EIS Support Portal ready for Polling Day.
Hot Off The Press!
SIMS User Forum Date and Agenda
The next user forum will be on Wednesday 22 May 2019, 9.30am – 12.30pm at the Mercure Tunbridge Wells Hotel in Pembury.
The agenda will focus on data analysis and how SIMS can help with particular areas such as attendance and assessment. We will be looking specifically at;
- The use of Power BI (which is a Microsoft product that analyses data and can produce dashboards for items like attendance)
- Interventions and how this can be used to report on items such as sports premium funding, or exam intervention sessions
- Assessment analysis (this is being delivered by Jeanette Hall who is a Capita Success Manager)
This could be of interest to people in schools who undertake roles such as Data Manager, Attendance Officer or Assessment Co-ordinators, however all customers are welcome to come along and join us.
There are still places available and you can secure your free place by visiting www.kentcpdonline.org.uk Ref code S316.
