SIMS: Recording a School Closure Due to Use as a Polling Station (# code)


Elections in the United Kingdom are scheduled to be held on Thursday 12 December 2019.

Is your school used as a Polling Station?

Do you need to record a planned closure (# code) for attendance purposes in SIMS?

Guidance notes Setting Up Polling Days in SIMS:# Code are available on the EIS Support Portal.


SIMS: Recording a School Closure Due to Bad Weather or Power Failure (Y code)

Sometimes schools have to close at short notice, particularly during periods of severe weather conditions. This is known as an unplanned closure and is covered by the DfE School Attendance – Guidance for Schools

We have published SIMS guidance notes on Managing Attendance: Enforced Closures – Y Code the EIS Support Portal ready for the winter season.

SIMS Autumn 2019 Upgrade for EIS SIMS Hosting Customers

Following the release of the SIMS Autumn 2019 upgrade – EIS SIMS Hosting customers should be aware that EIS will be upgrading the EIS Hosting Service between 17:00 on Friday 29th November and 06:00 on Monday 2nd December 2019.

This means you will not be able to access the entire EIS Hosting Service during this time including, SIMS/ Discover or FMS and your Hosted files and documents.

The SIMS Discover Autumn 2019 release will also be carried out during the same weekend to ensure the versions compatibility.


IMPORTANT NOTE:- Hosted schools will have to Import the latest version reports on Monday 2nd December, there is Information Notice 18-E031 which can be followed in order to complete this. This process is no longer completed as part of the EIS Hosting Service upgrade.


EIS are aware of an update to the 3rd party application SchoolComms. For schools on the EIS Hosting Service, this will be upgraded for you during the weekend Friday 29th November – Monday 2nd December.


For non-hosted schools, you will need to contact SchoolComms directly or download and deploy the latest update from their website.
