As part of your WordPress Maintenance and Support Contract, EIS monitor and update the plugins used to add functionality to your website.
We have been informed that the maintenance and support of the “Google Doc Embedder” will shortly be unsupportable due to a base technology change. Therefore, we have taken the decision to install a second plugin to eventually replace the current plugin in order to maintain the functionality of your website.
The Cloud Services team will be installing this plugin on your behalf. You will not be required to do anything. There will be no downtime on your website as a result of this work but you will notice that the new plugin “PDF Viewer” will only work for PDF’s.
Please can we take this opportunity to re-iterate our advice that all documents publicly available on your website should be saved as PDF files “Portable Document File” as this is the industry standard.
The work will take place over the next few weeks and as a result when you next go to add a document to a Page or Post via the Media Library link, the document will appear with the with a new short code: pdf-embedder url= instead of “gview file=“. All current files using the “gview file=” will continue to work until Google make their change but all new files will use the pdf-embedder.
